I can express this without equivocation: this album changed my life for the better. It was 2003, my senior year of high school. I read a Source review and hit the net for more info. Okayplayer, here I come! They went to N.C. Central? Word? I'll actually apply and make Aunt Toni happy. August comes, I'm at VCU. I meet this cat named H. and we start driving around, scoping out Richmond's majestic scenery and blasting "The Listening" out of the Toyota Corolla, affectionately known as "Ms. White." Then we proceeded to tell everyone about the album.
This album made me a believer in hip-hop once again, and that ain't no hyperbole. It also introduced us to 9th Wonder, (Rapper) Big Pooh, and Phonte. Years later, I am still a big of them, individually and as a whole. This album opened the doors for the Justus League as well. I know I copped L.E.G.A.C.Y and the Away Team's stuff off the strength of this opus.
